Christine Rostron
President Blakedown WI
Blakedown WI held its first meeting in 1920 so this October we shall become 106 years old.
We are a friendly and positive group with a whole range of interests and ideas with the opportunity to sample different crafts and activities and a wide range of speakers. Become a member of Blakedown WI and have fun while socialising and also gaining knowledge and experience with like minded ladies. One of members has just celebrated 60 years with Blakedown WI!
Every month we have a speaker on a wide range of issues both local and topical. We also have practical demonstrations on cookery and crafts. Over this coming year we will start the year with chair yoga, welcome speakers from Madresfield, The Life and fashions of Mary Quant, drumming with Ronnie Prudence, Dancing with Vicky Addis, Music from the musicals with Frances Fry. Theatre 282 will join us in June to tell us how their upcoming production of Calendar Girls is being produced. We are Easter crafting and Decorating a pebble finishing with our Christmas meeting of something a little different - the magician Jack Dent.
You may like to join one of our two book club or join our crafting sessions - Christmas Wreath making in December and we are off to Bonterre in Hallow for Lavender wreath workshop in July.. Join our days out; this year we have been to the Glass Museum in Stourbridge with a lunch afterwards at the Ruskin Gallery, Madresfield in June and a Christmas visit in December. Our Hagley Group of WI's hold two group events each year - the first was in June, a 1940's afternoon complete with a wonderful singer and a repertoire of good old sings we knew well.
Come along to a meeting and see if you enjoy what we do. We warmly welcome all prospective members as visitors.
